Fundraising tip:
We have asked Bruce Kantor, the top fundraiser for special events in Michigan in 2011, to share tips from his success with us and each month we will be bringing you a new strategy to try. We hope these tips will help you in your own fundraising success!

"As the leading fundraiser for MS in Michigan, I am often asked for "the secret" to raising such a large sum of money. Honestly, there is no secret and my standard answer to this question has always been a simple phrase, "Just Ask!" While I know that almost seems trivial, it truly is the basis for successful fundraising.
When I first started fundraising 25 years ago, I was always quite shy about asking friends, co-workers and family to support the cause. In fact, I often felt like I was doing something wrong or unfairly imposing by asking others for money. As a result, over those first few years, my fundraising totalswere low and remained fairly stagnant. In an effort to increase my pledges, I began asking people outside my inner circle for support, but that felt evenmore uncomfortable. To alleviate this feeling, I began giving people an "out". I would make my pitch and if there was any perceived hesitation, I would immediately tell them, "I know there are a lot of causes out there and I certainly understand if you cannot support MS. No, is an acceptable answer." To my surprise, very few people turned me down and the mere offer of an "out" alleviated any stress related to asking people for their money. As a result, I solicited significantly more people that year and my collected funds quadrupled! Now some 20 years later, I am so comfortable asking for pledges that I annually ask almost everyone I know. Remember, you cannot get pledges without asking! So, Just Ask....your family members, your cousins, your co-workers....Just Ask...your friends, your neighbors, your acquaintances....Just Ask....your co-workers, your plumber, your accountant...Just Ask!" --- Bruce Kantor

Come Join us for the ride of your Life
2012 will be the 27th anniversary of the Bike MS Ride in Michigan. The Michigan Chapter offers four rides for cyclists of all abilities. Each ride offers stocked rest stops, bicycle mechanics and rider assistance, a commemorative T-shirt and a finish line celebration. But most importantly, you'll be making a difference by raising essential funds for research and services for people with MS. There are over 18,000 people in the Michigan Chapter service area living with multiple sclerosis, we ride for them, for their families, and for their caregivers.
Bike MS is the largest organized cycling event in the United States, consisting of 100 extraordinary rides
in 48 states. Since its inception in 1980, Bike MS has raised nearly $770 million to bring us closer to a world free of MS.

Team up for more fun!
